Us and Tulsa

The German-American Society of Celle

In the year 2000, Celle and Tulsa, Oklahoma, formed a city partnership. Tulsa (external link to Google Maps) is the second-largest city in the U.S. state of Oklahoma, with approximately 410,000 inhabitants. (Oklahoma is located in the south-central region of the USA and borders on Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, and New Mexico). The oil industry, which is still of great import for Tulsa today, brought the city an economic boom in the 1920s and 1930s. Banks and office skyscrapers built in pure Art Deco style by the oil barons still shape the city’s skyline today. A diverse landscape of museums, opera, theater, and ballet are just as much at home here as the enormous shopping centers that cater to nearly every customer wish. And the legendary Route 66 runs right through the heart of the metropolis!

Us and Tulsa

Over the years, visiting groups traveling in both directions have contributed to strengthening our partnership. The first large group from Celle visited Tulsa in November 2000, when representatives of the Celle City Council, administration, local economy, and the German-American Society attended the ceremonial signing of the partnership agreement on November 21, 2000, planted a Celle-Tulsa tree, and celebrated the grand Thanksgiving holiday with their host families. Since then, many groups have undertaken mutual visits: entrepreneurs, political and administrative officials, “private” tourists, pastors, teachers and students, scholarship recipients, interns, firefighters, music groups, and Native American cultural groups, to name but a few. The German-American Society of Celle is always happy to coordinate accommodations and programs.

The Tulsa-Celle partnership will celebrate its silver anniversary in 2025. More information can be found on the City of Celle’s website.
