German-American Society of Celle

Whether it’s about the “Read & Chat” format, our English-language reading group, celebrations and events or other news—here you’ll always stay up to date!

Read and Chat

“Read and Chat” is the motto of our reading group, which meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM at Kulturtrif(f)t, Trift 32 in Celle (external link to Google Maps). Led by our Deputy Chair, an American by birth, this lively gathering offers a chance to learn more about American culture, history, and politics—and, most importantly, to chat informally in English. There are no grammar drills or long texts here! The focus isn’t on systematically learning the language or preparing for a test, but on refreshing and maintaining the English you may have once known. And we laugh a lot.

Members and (not-yet) members are welcome! No registration is required.
Occasionally, brief updates on association topics, such as upcoming events and plans, are discussed (in German) on the sidelines of the session, which lasts about 60 minutes.

    Read and Chat in January

    Cancelled!

Topics in recent sessions have included: American Values, Women’s Voting Rights, What is Success in America, Climate Change and Sustainability, American Inventions, Heroes and Heroines, Westward Treks, and, repeatedly, political developments. We’ve explored the voices of authors like Joan Didion, Bob Dylan, Toni Morrison, Isaac Asimov, and Amanda Gorman (among others) and discussed their work—without getting overly literary. Occasionally, we invite YouTube in.
